Honey Glazed Salmon
This honey glazed salmon is packed with flavor from fresh ginger, shallot, and garlic. The sauce is top notch and ready to impress!
This was one of the first dishes I ever made for Zach when we first started dating. It was about 14 years ago and I really wanted to impress him with my famous Honey Glazed Salmon recipe. Let’s just say things didn’t go as planned.
I had the recipe written on a scrap piece of paper, and at the time I was not nearly as confident in my cooking skills as I am now. I was following recipes to a T, and for whatever reason I read the measurement of 1/2 cup orange juice as 2 cups. Oy. Here is the Honey Salmon Marinade Recipe.
I thought the sauce looked too watery but wasn’t sure why and basically ended up serving him a piece of salmon that was swimming in orange juice! Yeah he ate it, but for the life of him could not figure out why I was so excited to make this recipe. It was gross but…
HE MARRIED ME ANYWAY! And good thing because I never messed it up again, and it’s become one of our family favorites ever since.
My favorite salmon
There are many different types of salmon you can use.My favorite is Scottish or Atlantic! These are both mild buttery in flavor.
Sides for Honey Glazed Salmon
Serve this easy, delicious salmon with my classic Coconut Rice recipe and a simple salad and DINNER IS DONE. An Arugula, Apple, and Avocado Salad would be absolutely divine, or this Crispy Roast Fennel!

- Yield: 2–3 people 1x
- Category: Dinner

Description
This honey glazed salmon is packed with flavor including fresh ginger, shallot, and garlic. The sauce is top notch and ready to impress!
Ingredients
- 1 pound salmon
For the sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons minced shallot
- 1 tablespoon minced ginger
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place salmon in a baking dish and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan heat the olive oil over medium/low heat. Add the shallot, ginger and garlic, and cook for 5 minutes until wilted, stirring occasionally.
- Add the orange juice, molasses, ketchup, honey, salt and pepper and bring to a boil. Keep the sauce at a low rolling boil for 2-3 minutes, stirring often.
- Reduce the heat and simmer the sauce for about 5 minutes until it begins to thicken, stirring occasionally.
- Pour the sauce over the salmon and bake for about 20-25 minutes. Spoon sauce over salmon again about half way through baking.
Notes
*Use any leftover salmon to top over a salad the next day!
*This sauce makes extra, enough for about 1 1/2 -2 pounds of fish. So you can either make more fish, or save the extra sauce and use it to serve over chicken or meat later in the week!

I knew I had that jar of molasses for a reason! Made this tonight and it was a hit with the whole family! So many different flavors and can’t really pick one out once it was cooked, delicious! I’m going to stir fry some chunks of chicken and use the rest of the sauce for that. Yum!! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it!
So yummy, a go-to for hosting dinner and for a quick weeknight meal.
Salmon is a weekly dinner staple for me but my husband is not a big fan. I’ve been trying to get him on board so that we’re not making two different meals. Enter this honey glaze.!! We have found a winner and perhaps a salmon convert. We had enough sauce for two dinners and he insisted we have two nights in a row. This recipe will be a regular in our meal planning.
So tasty! The sauce really kicks it up a notch to feel like a fancy meal. I am not super confident making salmon, and this recipe made me feel a whole lot more confident 🙂 Highly recommend! My husband and I devoured it.
So good! It’s a new family favorite. I made it twice this month, once with molasses and once with brown sugar. Both were great.
This dish was so delish. The salmon came out perfect and was even good the next day. Next time I make it and I will definitely make it again I will at least double the amount of ginger the recipe asks for. I didn’t taste the ginger too much and I love ginger. Will try on some pork chops too.
So yummy! My whole family enjoyed it!
So delicious and easy to put together (the best kind of recipe!!) If there are any leftovers, it reheats really well too!
The sauce is amazing! It was easy to prep ahead of time and my husband assembled and cooked for a quick dinner. We will be making the sauce to serve with stir fry too!
Loved it! I don’t usually love salmon, but this recipe was so good. I even got the sauce to thicken and I can never thicken sauces.
I really appreciated how simple this recipe was and it seems pretty foolproof! Molasses isn’t a staple in my house, so I subbed brown sugar, which I think let the ketchup flavor come through a bit much for my taste, so next time I’ll look for molasses. I also used onion instead of shallots, which worked well enough but there’s no doubt shallots are the way to go. With my subs, 4 stars (so, try not to take my shortcuts!)
This was really pretty good! I don’t love salmon unless it’s raw or smoked (I’m weird I know) but I wanted to go outside my comfort zone and the sauce was really good! I ended up dumping all of it on 1 pound of fish and not sure if that was the right choice or not. Maybe it would have caramelized a bit more if I was more reserved about it? I think I would actually like this sauce even better on crispy tofu, but again that’s more about fish preference. We ate this with coconut rice and roasted asparagus
Delicious and easy to make! Made the recipe to a T for Recipe of the Month. Next time will add sriracha or something to spice it up a bit. Will definitely be in the rotation going forward.
This was a big hit! Even my very picky children who usually don’t love fish cleaned their plates. Another great recipe!
So easy & delish! Decided last minute to make this for dinner & had everything on hand!
I was so nervous to try this recipe because I don’t feel super confident with fish/salmon. Lanie said you can do this with chicken but I wanted to challenge myself and try it out the way it was intended. It turned out great! We had friends over for dinner and everyone loved it! Including my 2 year old son. I’m sure this would’ve been good with coconut rice but we just served it with plain rice and a veggie.
I had to replace the molasses since I didn’t have any on hand but it was still amazing and I would absolutely make it again.
I love salmon, but this recipe by Laney takes it to a whole other level of deliciousness. That savory sweet combination with a ginger note compliments the salmon. I am so glad I made this recipe and the entire family loved it too.
This was so delicious!! Always looking for new ways to make salmon and this recipe did not disappoint! I did not have molasses on hand so subbed brown sugar and it was maybe a bit thinner but still flavorful!
